Colorful Fräkke Frederik goes from strength to strength and is now mentioned among the few that can compete in the Elitlopp. His pedigree looks rather simple at first sight, but there are interesting points. Firstly, let's mention his sire Speedy Tomali which had a remarkable ability to produce stars. Interestingly enough, he only did it in our neighboring Nordic countries and not during the six seasons he was at stud in Sweden. Apart from Fräkke Frederik, there are of course Norwegian stars Gentle Star and Tamin Sandy.
Fräkke Frederik's maternal family is purely Danish. His dam Moonshine was a decent racehorse which earned about 100,000 Danish crowns. Her two first foals did not make it, but the third one, Elegant Crown, has won eight races and went 1.58.4 in Norway. 5yo Grethe is exported to Finland while 3yo Ingeborg Skjern recently qualified for Catarina Lundström/Stefan Melander.
Second dam Sunshine Mynderup is half or full sister of Pimpernell II and Bacardi II which both raced with success in the seventies in Denmark and Sweden. Pimpernell II also had foals in Sweden. The maternal line goes back to German Edelgunde, whose family also has produced in Sweden well-known Another Lord, Horns Hooter, Is Ego, Bisego and Direktör Japp.
Over to the perhaps most interesting observation in the pedigree of Fräkke Frederik: The flying Dane is linebred to Flicka Hanover, and he is not the only one. The same recipe has produced one of the leading foals by Speedy Tomali in Sweden, Anton Komet, while Tamin Sandy and all his great siblings are linebred 4+4 to Flicka Frost, Flicka Hanover's famous daughter. In Norway, there are two more Speedy Tomalis bred this way: Polar Speedy with 16 wins in 43 starts and Mr National Day 1:59 453,500 Norwegian crowns. Speedy Tomali with extra Flicka Hanover influence - is that a Norwegian - Danish Golden Cross?
Linebreeding to Flicka Hanover/Flicka Frost has also produced Fine Lucrative, Dupont 1:59, Linus Follo 1:59:4 690,875 NOK, Why Not Hoff 1:59.3 434,550 NOK, Attila Flamingo 2:01.1 and Cinderella Lobell 2:00.2 (as pointed out by Kjeld Mathiasen in a comment on this article, this linebreeding has also produced the fastest Danish trotter ever, Bastian Birke 1:53.4 2,046,943 DKK, and the Danish Derby winner Dragon Flamingo 1:57 2,135.411 DKK, translator's note). One should however remember that similar crosses should are not that uncommon in Norway and Denmark, considering the influence from stallions such as Frosty Hanover, Speedy Tomali, Carmody Lobell, Linus T., Flicking Star and Why Not in these countries.
Looking forward to Danish Dynamite in the Elitlopp!
