Offshore Dream IS NOT inbred to Speedy Crown/Somolli
I have received a number of mails from users wondering why Speedy Crown/Somolli are not coloured in the pedigree of Offshore Dream and why these crosses are not listed among the inbreeding crosses. The very simple answer to this is that this is not inbreeding!
Inbreeding occurs when there are common ancestors on both the paternal and the maternal side. In the case of Offshore Dream and Speedy Crown and Somolli only appear on the maternal side.
Look at it this way: the amount inbreeding depends on how closely related the parents are. If you breed a stallion to his own daughter (1+2), there is an inbreeding coefficient of 25 %, if you mate two halfsiblings (2+2) then then it is 12,5 % and so on. Offshore Dream's parents are only distantly related throught common ancestors like Loudeac and Carioca II.
Thus: Offshore Dream is not inbred/linebred to Speedy Crown or Somolli, but his dam is!
